DATA CENTRES VIETNAM
Published: August 2010 |
Report Synopsis
Vietnam has been a member of the World Trade Organization since 2007. Local enterprises are increasing rapidly and expected to triple in number from today’s levels by 2018. The government is encouraging the use of ICT by implementing a series of e-initiatives,as broadband penetration increases across the country. Coupled with inward overseas investment, data centres are emerging across the entire country to respond to new local demand. Data centres in Vietnam are located primarily in key cities particularly Ho Chi Minh which has the highest penetration, Hanoi and Da Nang and in other cities identified in the report.
A key challenge is power. Although several new projects will add capacity to the national grid including hydro electric, nuclear and wind energy, Vietnam is expected to still have a substantial shortfall for some years ahead. Electricity prices remain high compared to other countries in south east Asia. Nevertheless this report forecasts that data centres will comprise of some 20% of IT revenues by 2013.
The report profiles 38 data centre vendors, and provides a taxonomy of data centre space by vendor and location. It also identifies new build data centre projects already underway.
The report is a valuable overview of the current developments in Vietnam’s data centre growth, and useful entry point for companies engaged in the sector who wish to understand the composition of the local market and how it is evolving.
